THE HISTORY OF KRAV MAGA

It was in the 1930's when Imi was protecting his family and Jewish neighbors from the local fascist thugs that would terrorize the citizens of the area. He understood that there was a need for some way to train people to protect themselves better under these brutal conditions.

This is when he knew that he had the answer. Krav Maga was then formed by Imi and quickly became unpopular with the invading German troops of Adolph Hitler in the late 1930's. Imi was forced to leave the country or die by the German invaders hands.

Imi went to Israel where he made his new martial art style (Krav Maga) popular. Israel at this time was known as Palestine but Imi fought to make Isarael it’s own state. It was during this time when Imi was training the Israeli soldiers his combat style self defense that he called Krav Maga.

It was actually the Israeli military who asked Imi to develop and become the chief instructor of their self defense course. Imi was proud and honored to train the combat style of Krav Maga to their military personnel

By 1950 Krav Maga had been tested in hand to hand combat many times. Krav Maga had also been extremely effective and feared by Israeli enemies for over 20 years. It was after Imi retired that the official Israeli combat style of krav Maga was offered to the public for personal self defense.

Imi hand picked his Krav Maga instructors and made them official accredited Krav Maga teachers. In 1978 Imi and several of his Krav Maga students created the non-profit Krav Maga association aimed at promoting the Israeli combat martial art of Krav Maga around the world.

Krav Maga teaches fast-escape maneuvers combined with powerful counterattacks. Whether you’re big or small, male or female, young or old, you can use Krav Maga to protect yourself by exploiting an assailant’s vulnerabilities. The combat training has become so popular world-wide that there are now many Krav Maga books on the shelves. Even the legendary Bas Rutten practices Krav Maga and has been very successful using the style.

Krav Maga is the official hand-to-hand combat system of the Israeli Defense Forces. It's also the preferred system for U.S. Military and law enforcement personnel. Krav Maga is not a traditional martial art. No kata, No rituals and No nonsense.
